Hennessy Industries Awarded for Support of National Guard

Hennessy Industries, Inc., has been named a recipient of the Above and Beyond Award from Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), a Department of Defense operational committee.

The award is presented by ESGR state committees and recognizes employers at the local level that have gone above and beyond the legal requirements of the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act to support employees who are members of the Reserve or Guard.

“We are a patriotic company and do everything we can to support our troops, especially when they are also part of the Hennessy family,” said Sanjay Chowbey, president of Hennessy Industries, Inc.

Chowbey accepted the award on behalf of Hennessy Industries, which is headquartered in La Vergne, Tenn., from Tennessee ESGR Chairman Carl Lambert. The award was presented to Hennessy Industries because of its generous support of Command Sergeant Major Darren T. McDow – a Hennessy Industries employee – during his five-year deployment.

“Hennessy Industries has distinguished itself by providing outstanding support to its employee and Tennessee Army National Guardsman, Command Sergeant Major Darren McDow,” said Lambert at the award presentation. “McDow’s service to our country is very much appreciated, as is the support of his employer.”

McDow has been on active duty since 2007, and will return to work at Hennessy Industries on April 1. During his deployment, employees from Hennessy Industries kept in touch with his family, sent care packages for him and his fellow soldiers, and even sent a large supply of soccer balls for McDow to distribute to schools in Afghanistan.

“We’re honored to receive this award, and very proud of Darren’s service to our country over the past five years,” Chowbey said. “More than anything, we’re happy to have him back safely and look forward to his contributions to our team.”

The Above and Beyond Award was created by ESGR to publicly recognize American employers providing extraordinary support and cooperation to their employees who have answered their nation’s call to serve. The award is given in limited numbers by state committees to employers that meet criteria determined by ESGR.

About Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR)

ESGR, a Department of Defense operational committee, was established in 1972 to promote cooperation and understanding between Reserve Component Service members and their civilian employers, and to assist in the resolution of conflicts arising from employees’ military commitments. ESGR is supported by a network of more than 4,900 volunteers in 54 committees located across all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Guam-CNMI, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Hennessy Industries’ BADA wheel weight manufacturing facility in Bowling Green, Ky., has been named a recipient of the inaugural General Motors Supplier Quality Excellence Award for 2012.

This prestigious honor from the nation’s largest vehicle manufacturer is a testament to the people, technology and standards of excellence at the Bowling Green facility, said Hennessy Industries’ vice president for marketing, Kevin Keefe.

“Receiving a quality award from anyone is an honor, but to receive it from General Motors is especially gratifying,” said Keefe. “The supplier standards they have put in place are some of the most stringent in the industry, reflecting a relentless focus on quality that we share with them.”

The Supplier Quality Excellence Award is given to specific supplier locations, and only the top-performing suppliers are eligible to win the award, said Tom McMillen, General Motors’ executive director for Supplier Quality & Program Management.

“Suppliers that receive this award have met or exceeded a stringent set of quality performance criteria,” said McMillen. “We view product quality as the foundation for the overall customer experience. Our continued success is directly related to the performance and progress of our suppliers, as well as a shared commitment to quality.”

Tim Presley, vice president/operations for the BADA facility in Bowling Green, said the award was a much-welcomed validation of the high-quality work being done at the plant every day. BADA has supplied General Motors with steel wheel weights for use in passenger vehicle manufacturing in North America and beyond since 2005.

“Working closely with General Motors has helped us further develop world-class quality systems, processes and products,” said Presley. “As a result, we are the premier supplier of lead-free weights not only to vehicle manufacturers, but also to the automotive aftermarket.”

The inaugural 2012 awards covered the period from July 1, 2011, through June 30, 2012. General Motors said it intends to continue to recognize suppliers that have demonstrated the highest levels of quality performance on an annual basis.

Coats® Adds New Balancer, Software Enhancements to Heavy-Duty Line

LA VERGNE, Tenn. – Hennessy Industries’ COATS ® brand has made two significant upgrades to its heavy-duty wheel-balancer line. The first is the addition of the 6450-2D to COATS’ line of Direct-Drive heavy-duty balancers. The second is the launch of Dual Calibration Software (DCS™), which enhances the auto and light-truck applications on the 6450 platform.

The 6450-2D retains the most valuable 6450-3D features, including proven durability, fast cycle times and high accuracy through a wide range of wheels. DCS will be standard on both the 6450-2D and -3D models.

Features on the new 6450-2D include:

• Two-parameter auto data entry system for clip weight and three-parameter for Tape-A-Weight®

• 2-inch (51mm) heavy-duty arbor on COATS’ proven Direct-Drive motor

• Up to 500-pound and 52-inch wheel capacity

• Laser-guided direct Tape-A-Weight placement

Dual Calibration Software is available exclusively on COATS 6450 heavy-duty wheel balancers. Unlike other heavy-duty balancers, which simply change the round-off when switching between heavy duty and passenger car work, the COATS 6450 series stores and runs two independent sets of calibrations – one for passenger-car and light-truck and one for heavy-duty applications. In addition to changing round-offs, these machines dynamically adjust critical balancing parameters based on the job at hand.

The addition of DCS to both 6450 models makes the 6450 Series the most accurate heavy-duty balancers in passenger-car and light-truck modes on the market. The 6450 is built for municipal shops servicing police cars, fire trucks and transit vehicles. It is also the right machine for front- line retail service, from delivery vehicles to tractor trailers. DCS gives 6450s the widest and most accurate range; the AC Vector Drive gives the 6450s speed and ease of use, while the COATS Direct Drive motor provides durability and years of trouble-free service.

“Hennessy works to provide the most competitive products on the market, and the 6450-2D and Dual Calibration Software are the latest additions to our already impressive lineup,” said Kevin Keefe, Hennessy Industries’ vice president of marketing. “These items will provide further time savings for busy shops and continue COATS’ proven durability.”

COATS® Introduces X-Series Model 70X Leverless RIM CLAMP® Tire Changer and EL-X™ Inflation System

LA VERGNE, Tenn. – Hennessy Industries has released the COATS® Model 70X Leverless Tire Changer, the newest addition to its popular X-series line of tire changers. In addition to the release of the 70X Leverless, Hennessy introduced the COATS® EL-X™ Express Lane Inflation System as an optional feature for all COATS® Rim Clamp® tire changers.

The COATS 70X Leverless model features a unique leverless mount/demount head that eliminates the use of manual tire tools, and an exclusive swing arm locking mechanism that greatly reduces the operator effort required to change even the most challenging applications. This latest addition to the Rim Clamp family includes all the value-added features of the X-Series line, including Advanced Clamp Positioning and COATS’ exclusive Oil Injection System.

“The 70X Leverless was designed to maximize capability and efficiency across a broad range of tire and wheel fitments, while maintaining COATS’ rugged durability, familiarity and ease of use,” said Kevin Keefe, Hennessy Industries’ vice president of marketing. “Aside from its obvious capability enhancements, the leverless system also delivers increased productivity compared to traditional mount/demount systems.”

In addition to the 70X, COATS has introduced the COATS EL-X™ Express Lane Inflation System as an upgrade option for all COATS tire changers. Designed to reduce bay times, the EL-X provides time savings of 20 percent or more on a four-tire ticket compared to the conventional inflation process. In addition to the productivity improvements, the EL-X system is highly accurate, inflating tires to +/- 0.5 PSI of desired pressure in order to reduce TPMS-related comebacks.

To illustrate the benefits of the EL-X Express Lane Inflation System, Hennessy Industries’ newly redesigned website features a head-to-head demonstration video, pitting the COATS® 70XEH3 Tire Changer against the COATS® 70XEH3 with the EL-X Express Lane Inflation System.

LA VERGNE, Tenn. – Hennessy Industries has announced the addition of three new models to its BaseLine by COATS tire changer family: the BL300, BL400 and BL500. Just like the previously released BL200, these new tire changers are designed specifically for light-duty or low-volume tire service needs. For shops where tire service is an important, but not primary, source of business, all four BaseLine models offer reliable, economical alternatives to pre-owned equipment.

“Demand remains high for durable, entry-level tire changers,” said Kevin Keefe, Hennessy Industries’ vice president of marketing. “BaseLine tire changers offer low-volume shops a cost-effective way to provide tire service without gambling on used equipment or unproven brands.”

The BL300, BL400 and BL500 mirror their BaseLine predecessor by servicing both steel and alloy wheels. Each tire changer comes with an air-powered side bead loosener, an X-shaped tabletop and bead-sealing jets to assist with inflation. The BL400 and BL500 also include a fully articulating Robo-Arm® helper device to easily mount stiffer sidewall tires.

Assembled in the company’s La Vergne, Tenn., facility, BaseLine tire changers offer exceptional quality and durability for light-duty service, and they are backed by COATS, the country’s leading tire service equipment brand. Furthermore, all BaseLine customers have access to the COATS nationwide network of Factory Authorized Service providers.

BaseLine by COATS tire changers are available through a number of tool equipment distributors. To find a BaseLine by COATS distributor near you, please visit www.ammcoats.com and follow the links for BaseLine products.

“The 7325-FET and 7325-FE were designed to offer a low-profile alternative to BADA’s 7025 Series, while also offering a shorter segment length than the 7026 Series – BADA’s original low-profile steel Tape-A-Weight line – which will result in more one-spin balances,” said Kevin Keefe, Hennessy Industries vice president of marketing.

The 7325-FET steel Tape-A-Weight product is 25 low-profile strips of quarter-ounce segments featuring exclusive Tape-on-Top to aid with installation.

New COATS® Balancer Tackles Heavy-duty Tires with Push of a Button

LA VERGNE, Tenn. – Hennessy Industries' COATS brand has announced the launch of a new heavy-duty wheel balancer, the 6450-3D, designed to quickly and accurately balance the most demanding heavy-duty truck tires. The 6450-3D is the latest addition to COATS line of patented direct drive balancers.

The 6450-3D is based on the COATS 6401 model, but also includes several features from the 1250-3D model—the company's most popular balancer. Included in the new features are a one-touch automatic data entry system for all three parameters, a patented Stop and Lock feature that holds the wheel in place until the weight is installed, and an auto-indexing feature that automatically moves the wheel to the next weight position, holding it until the weight is installed.

"The 6450-3D is going to be especially beneficial for high-volume shops with heavy-duty demands," said Kevin Keefe, Hennessy Industries' vice president of marketing. "We've adapted many of the upgrades and value-added features from our 1250-3D model to create a heavy-duty balancer that's as quick and accurate as any front-line, high-volume balancer on the market."

The 6450-3D can handle even larger tires than does the 6401, with a maximum tire diameter of 52 inches, and it comes with an AC vector drive motor, which shaves 20 seconds off a typical 22.5-inch wheel spin. Additionally, the new balancer features a laser weight placement feature that tells the operator precisely where to position Tape-A-Weights®.

COATS is also launching a new air-operated lift to accompany the new balancer. The 550 Scissor Wheel Lift attaches directly to the new heavy-duty balancer, making it easy for operators to lift tires weighing up to 500 pounds onto the balancer. The 550 scissor wheel lift can also be retrofitted to COATS Model 6401 balancers.

New York Gets the Lead Out

LA VERGNE, Tenn. – Beginning April 1, 2011, the sale and installation of lead wheel weights will be banned in the state of New York, continuing a nationwide trend with a positive impact on the environment.

Most people will go green without ever seeing how they're doing it – wheel weights typically weigh only 1.25 ounces, are less than 2 inches in length, and are affixed to the inside of or on a vehicle's wheel, out of sight, in order to balance the tire and wheel assembly. Despite the anonymity of the weights, the impact of the ban in New York will be enormous – the typical vehicle has eight to 10 wheel weights on it; with more than 11 million vehicles on the road in the Empire State, that equates to approximately 100 million weights at any one time. New York becomes the seventh state to ban lead weights, joining California, Illinois, Maine, Minnesota, Vermont and Washington.

Kevin Keefe, vice president of marketing for Hennessy Industries, which has led the wheel weight industry's transition away from lead and developed a popular line of BADA® brand steel wheel weights as an alternative to lead, applauded the move.

"It's not often that every single citizen of a state participates in an activity that is good for the environment; but from here on out, any time New Yorkers have their wheels balanced, they'll be doing it in a more environmentally responsible way than ever before, and odds are they won't even realize it," said Keefe.

Lead, one of 31 priority chemicals targeted for reduction by the EPA, has long been the material of choice for wheel weights. In recent years, however, virtually all worldwide automobile manufacturers have voluntarily moved away from lead weights as part of vehicles' original equipment, and major tire retailers such as Wal-Mart, Costco and Bridgestone/Firestone have discontinued the use of lead weights. Some large retailers and many smaller, independent shops continue to install lead weights in the aftermarket, however, and with no nationwide ban on lead weights, states have taken up the issue on their own.

Those who violate the ban in New York can face stiff penalties, depending on circumstances, including fines of up to $1,000 per violation (and an additional $1,000 per day the violation occurs).

"Starting tomorrow, New Yorkers will be exposed to less airborne lead when my law prohibiting the use or sale of lead wheel weights takes effect," said New York Assembly member Linda B. Rosenthal. "We are all well-aware of the dangers of lead, both to human health and the environment. What people may not realize is that many tiny wheel weights, which are clipped on to the wheel's rim to help keep the wheels balanced, are made mostly of lead. When these weights come loose, they are crushed by other vehicles, and are responsible for spreading lead dust into the air and water. Preventing the sale or use of these lead wheel weights, which easily can and are already being made of steel, will have a significant impact on people's health and the environment."

Steel has emerged as the most popular alternative to lead, besting zinc, which, though a less harmful substance than lead, is considered a secondary water contaminant. Steel presents no such environmental concerns and is much more convenient to recycle. At its BADA plant in Bowling Green, Ky., Hennessy Industries has made major investments to retrofit its wheel weight plant to manufacture steel weights. The company has seen significant growth in its steel weight business since 2005, and has launched websites to educate consumers (www.greenwheelbalance.com) and its own clients (www.steelwheelweights.com) on the issue.

LA VERGNE, Tenn. – Hennessy Industries has announced the winners of “The Search for the Oldest COATS Direct Drive Balancer” contest. Jim and Abe Torro, co-owners of Orange Auto Center in Orange, Calif., were named the grand-prize winners after entering their 30-year-old direct drive balancer into the contest. The brothers will receive a trip to Las Vegas and a new COATS® 1250-3DV balancer.

“Our balancer was manufactured in July of 1981. It was one of the earliest direct drive models manufactured, so I knew that we had a chance to win,” Abe Torro said. “Although it’s old enough to be an antique, it’s still very reliable, accurate and quick.”

The contest, which ran from October to December, gave COATS direct drive balancer owners a chance to win one of three prizes, including new COATS 1250-3DV balancers for the runner-up and random drawing winners. COATS received more than 200 contest entries from across the U.S., with many of the balancers dating back to the 1980s.

To view photos and testimonials submitted by contestants, or to learn more about “The Search for the Oldest COATS Direct Drive Balancer,” visit www.coatsdirectdrive.com.

“We hoped the contest would emphasize the longevity and reliability of COATS direct drive balancers,” said Kevin Keefe, Hennessy Industries’ vice president of marketing. “With more than 200 balancers entered into the contest, many of which have been used on a daily basis since the early ’80s, we think it did just that.”

COATS patented direct drive technology features an integrated motor and spindle assembly that is pre-balanced at the factory, eliminating the need for pulleys and belts that can cause troublesome “noise” and interfere with balancing accuracy. It is also an extremely robust and durable design, which is why many original direct drive models are still being used to balance tires in high-volume shops.

Jerry Maxwell and Pat Carter, co-owners of Carter-Maxwell Auto Service in Bethany, Okla., were identified as the runners-up. Their direct drive balancer was manufactured in October of 1981, only three months after the Torro’s. Mike McCarthy, a high school shop teacher at Nogales High School in LaPuente, Calif., was selected as the winner of the random drawing.

“I was glad to see that they gave all COATS® direct drive owners a chance to win,” said McCarthy. “I assumed our school’s balancer probably wouldn’t be the oldest entered into the contest, but figured it was worth entering for the random drawing. We really needed a new balancer for shop class, and the 1250-3DV is perfect for training students with no experience.”

LA VERGNE, Tenn. – Hennessy Industries has announced the launch of a fall promotional contest, "The Search for the Oldest COATS Direct Drive Balancer," that gives COATS direct drive balancer owners a chance to win a trip for two to Las Vegas and a new 1250-3DV balancer. The contest will run from Oct. 11 through Dec. 3.

In addition to the grand prize, the owner of the next-oldest COATS direct drive balancer will receive a new 1250-3DV balancer, and everyone who enters the contest is eligible to win a new 1250-3DV through a random drawing. Shops that have a COATS direct drive balancer should go to www.coatsdirectdrive.com to enter their machine's serial number for a chance to win.

"This contest is going to be a lot of fun and should really highlight the longevity and reliability of COATS direct drive balancers," said Kevin Keefe, Hennessy Industries' vice president of marketing. "We expect to find tens if not hundreds of COATS direct drive balancers still in use that were manufactured 10, 20 or even 30 years ago; but we wanted to give all of our direct drive customers a chance to win a new 1250-3DV, regardless of the age of their equipment."

COATS patented direct drive technology features an integrated motor and spindle assembly that is pre-balanced at the factory, eliminating the need for pulleys and belts that can cause troublesome "noise" and interfere with balancing accuracy. It is also an extremely robust and durable design, which is why many original direct drive models are still being used to balance tires in high-volume shops.

"With new direct drive models in the pipeline, we started thinking about ways to emphasize the reliability and longevity aspect of our direct drive systems" said Keefe. "This contest seemed like a terrific opportunity to let our customers tell us their direct drive story."

LA VERGNE, Tenn. – Hennessy Industries, Inc., has launched the new COATS Leverless Bead Lifter, an attachment upgrade that retrofits the COATS APX, 9024 and 70X series Rim Clamp tire changers.

The bead lifter’s leverless design eliminates traditional tire tools that can mar the tire’s surface due to application difficulty or operator error, resulting in improved shop efficiency and better tire-changing results. It features a highly intuitive and easy-to-use design that eliminates metal-to-metal contact, taking the tire bar out of the operator’s hands and ensuring a controlled mount-and-demount process.

During demounting, the leverless tool hooks the lip of the bead and effortlessly lifts it just above the rim. The tire then comes off the rim safely and easily with a simple rotation of the tabletop. The leverless tool can also be utilized as an additional helper device when mounting a tire’s top bead. And as always, the COATS Leverless Bead Lifter is built with the legendary COATS toughness and reliability for use in high-volume shops.

“The X-Model is not a new product launch, but a reorganization of COATS tire changer products to better fit our customers’ needs,” said Kevin Keefe, Hennessy Industries’ vice president of marketing. “We’ve adapted some of the features from our 7000 series models to fit the 5000 series models, and we’ve decoupled storage and accessories across the line to give our customers more options and more price points.”

The new line will offer three 50X and three 70X models, and customers will be able to differentiate the models by how they’re equipped with accessories and add-ons for better customization. The new line also adds several price points that will allow customers to pay only for the features their shops need in a tire changer.

“Customers can expect the same durability and value they’ve always had with COATS tire changers, but now they will be able to pick and choose the features that they feel are important for their shop,” said Keefe. “The new line also gives our distributors six price points to offer customers.”

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (July 8, 2010) — Goodyear has selected Hennessy Industries’ BADA brand to supply its retail and Just Tires network with steel wheel weights.

The Akron-based tire maker, which operates 600 U.S. retail outlets, has already made the transition from lead to steel wheel weights in California, as required by law, and plans to start the national rollout in mid-July. To date, Arizona, Oregon and Washington and Minnesota have already transitioned to steel wheel weights.

BADA also has partnered with Akron-based Myers Tire Supply to distribute its steel wheel weights to Goodyear retail stores.

“Like many large companies, we believe that offering eco-friendly products is part of our responsibility to our consumers,” said Jerry Alessia, Goodyear retail’s director of store support. “We’re proud to be working with companies like BADA and Myers Tire Supply who are dedicated to providing the best alternative to lead wheel weights.”

Because of environmental concerns over lead wheel weights, several states and cities have passed anti-lead legislation, and the state of Washington has endorsed steel over all other alternatives. BADA said it is playing a key role in the industry’s shift from lead to steel wheel weights.

LA VERGNE, Tenn. – The state of Washington’s Department of Ecology announced recently its endorsement of steel wheel weights over other lead alternatives, a move that drew praise from the industry’s largest producer of wheel weights.

“Steel is, without a doubt, the best choice for the environment,” said Hennessy’s vice president of marketing, Kevin Keefe. “Hennessy commends the state of Washington for going a step beyond banning lead by promoting steel as the best alternative. We hope to see other states follow the example set by Washington’s Department of Ecology.”

Wheel weights, the small weights attached to the inner and outer surfaces of vehicle wheels in order to balance the tire, historically have been made of lead. But health and environmental concerns about lead have motivated Washington and four other states – California, Maine, Minnesota and Vermont – to pass legislation banning lead wheel weights. Maryland and Wisconsin have also proposed similar legislation.

“Washington state is banning the use of lead wheel weights for most vehicles in 2011 because of the toxic hazard they pose for people, the environment and aquatic life,” said Carol Kraege with the Washington Department of Ecology. “Lead wheel weights must be replaced with ‘environmentally preferred’ weights, and Ecology recommends coated steel wheel weights as replacements.”

With the Department of Ecology’s endorsement of steel as the best alternative, Washington joins Maine as the second state to put its official support behind steel. The state of Maine has declared it will not promote the use of zinc wheel weights, another alternative to lead, due to concerns about toxicity to wildlife.

Zinc is considered to be a secondary water contaminant. As a result, many businesses and some states are transitioning from lead to steel exclusively.

Last year, the Environmental Protection Agency accepted a petition from a dozen environmental and public health organizations to immediately begin rulemaking to ban lead wheel weights nationwide.

LA VERGNE, Tenn. – As an increasing number of states, municipalities, manufacturers and retailers make the transition – either voluntarily or through legislation – from lead to steel wheel weights, Hennessy Industries, manufacturer of the BADA line of steel wheel weights, continues to notch record sales, now having shipped nearly 300 million steel wheel weights to vehicle manufacturers around the world and tire dealers nationwide.

“More and more cities, states and businesses are joining the pro-steel movement by making the transition from lead to steel wheel weights,” said Hennessy’s vice president of marketing, Kevin Keefe. “Steel is, without a doubt, the best choice for the environment, and Hennessy offers the best, most comprehensive line of steel wheel weights in the U.S.”

Wheel weights, the small weights attached to the inner and outer surfaces of vehicle wheels in order to balance the tire, are commonly made of lead. But health and environmental concerns about lead have motivated five states – California, Maine, Minnesota, Vermont and Washington – to pass legislation banning lead wheel weights. Maryland and Wisconsin are also proposing similar legislation.

As of Jan. 1, 2011, the state of Maine will prohibit the sale, distribution and installment of lead- or mercury-containing wheel weights. Beginning in 2012, it will be illegal to sell a new car in Maine if the wheel weights contain lead or mercury. The state of Washington also signed into law a comprehensive ban on the installation of lead wheel weights that becomes effective on Jan. 1, 2011.

In 2008, the Center for Environmental Health reached a voluntary agreement with Chrysler and the three major U.S. wheel weight manufacturers to stop shipping lead wheel weights into California by the end of 2009. Since then, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has signed a Senate bill into law that bans the sale and installation of lead wheel weights by any company in the state.

The states of Minnesota and Vermont, along with the cities of Ann Arbor, Mich., and Blacksburg, Va., have banned lead wheel weights on government vehicles.

Last year, the Environmental Protection Agency accepted a petition from a dozen environmental and public health organizations to immediately begin rulemaking to ban lead wheel weights nationwide.

Two primary alternatives to lead wheel weights are available in most states – steel and zinc – but zinc is considered to be a secondary water contaminant. As a result, many businesses and some states are transitioning from lead to steel exclusively. The state of Maine has declared it will not promote the use of zinc wheel weights due to concerns about wildlife toxicity. The state of Washington’s Department of Ecology has also recently cited steel as its preferred alternative to lead wheel weights.

GREEN, Ky. March 16, 2010; BADA has launched a line of steel wheel weights for medium- and heavy-duty trucks and several new styles of steel Tape-A-Weights® as part of an expansion of what already was the industry's most complete line of steel wheel weights, Hennessy Industries' vice president of marketing Kevin Keefe announced today.

The medium- and heavy-duty truck steel wheel weights are for trucks weighing more than three-quarters of a ton. Like all other BADA steel wheel weights, the new line of truck weights features a special metallic coating that enhances corrosion resistance and a patented clip-in-mass design which puts the clip in the mass of the weight for superior fit.

"We've taken our patented clip-in-mass design from our passenger car and light truck steel wheel weight line and developed an industry-first line for medium- and heavy-duty trucks," Keefe said. "I'm proud that BADA continues to expand the industry's most comprehensive steel wheel weight line by adding even more quality products for our customers."

BADA has also launched several new styles of steel Tape-A-Weights, all of which are designed to fit the needs of soft-line wheels that do not accept traditional clip-on weights. Every Tape-A-Weight style features a patented Tape-On-Top design which keeps the weight strip rigid and enables easy, accurate, one-handed application. BADA's new Tape-A-Weights for light truck, SUV, and one-ton-plus applications are available in low-profile strips of 576 half-ounce segments or 288 one-ounce segments.

The company has also launched new colored break-a-way weights available with black or white coating, in addition to the regular steel-colored coating. The colored weights come in low-profile strips of 200-count segments. Each segment is a quarter-ounce.

LA VERGNE, Tenn. – Hennessy Industries, Inc. has recently re-launched its most popular line of Rim Clamp® tire changers, the COATS 7000 series. The new and improved series features several major upgrades designed to increase application coverage and decrease floor-to-floor times. The COATS 7000 series tire changers will be on display at Hennessy Industries’ booth (#46055) at SEMA.

The new COATS 7000 series line includes the following upgrades:

Grip-Max™ Clamps: provide integrated protection and twice the slip resistance of conventional clamp covers.

Oil injector system: a huge, clear reservoir replaces a conventional filter-lubricator. Holds approximately one year’s worth of oil, which is actively injected into the system with every tire change. Radically reduces downtime due to lack of preventive maintenance.

Three-way powered bead-loosening system: available on 7060 models, this new bead-loosening system offers easy-to-use powered in- and out-control, plus a neutral position for increased control and productivity.

Duckhead™ Mounted Bead Roller: works in tandem with the Robo Arm™ to keep the toughest tire beads in the drop-center during tire mounting.

Advanced clamp positioning system: enables clamps to be preset in any position between 6 inches and 22 inches when equipped with standard clamps. Drastically improves ease of clamping, especially with large, heavy wheels. Minimizes the chances of “pinching” a soft sidewall or nicking a wheel during clamping.

Auxiliary bead-sealing device: quickly and efficiently seals even the most stubborn of beads using your tire changer’s surge tank. Easily attaches to 50-, 70-, and APX series tire changers. Always charged and ready, this device eliminates the need for a standalone bead-sealing unit.

Improved Robo Arm™: features a multitude of upgrades including longer reach for wheels up to 28 inches and new design features that provide enhanced grip and power for the toughest of applications.

COATS 7000 series tire changers include the 7060 AX, 7060 EX and 7665 AX models. All three models are made with super-tough fiber-reinforced composite air cylinders, which virtually never wear out, feature extra support blocks on the bead looseners for added protection and durability, and are built with legendary COATS® toughness and reliability for use in high-volume shops.

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Ford Motor Company presented its Q1 Award to the BADA division of Hennessy Industries, Inc., in ceremonies at the company’s Bowling Green, Ky., plant on Sept. 3.

BADA supplies wheel weights for Ford cars and light trucks, in addition to other automotive markets. The Q1 Award, Ford’s recognition of organizations that have achieved a continued level of product quality and excellence, distinguishes BADA as a preferred supplier.

Ford Supplier Quality representatives presented the Q1 Award plaque and Q1 flag to Mike Schulte, Hennessy Industries president, and Tim Presley, Hennessy Industries vice president of operations. “I can’t thank the Hennessy team enough for keeping the BADA plant at its current level and working together to achieve such a goal,” Schulte said, after accepting the award in front of a large audience of BADA employees and other Ford and Hennessy executives.

During his presentation speech, Keith Aubuchon of Ford Supplier Quality said, “It’s extremely important to have Q1 status, especially in this economy, with suppliers dropping out like they are. When I drive by a facility and see the Q1 flag, I know it’s a company that’s doing the right thing and making a high-quality product. The Q1 flag is a symbol of trust.”

LA VERGNE, Tenn.– BADA®, a division of Hennessy Industries, is pleased to announce the launch of a new microsite, www.steelwheelweights.com, aimed at promoting the environmental benefits of its BADA® steel wheel weights. The microsite is also accessible through a link on the Hennessy Industries web site at www.ammcoats.com.

“The majority of wheel weights are made are still made of lead, but that is quickly changing,” said Don Vanderheyden, group marketing manager for Hennessy Industries Inc. “The new microsite will educate independent dealers and retailers, merchandisers, and aftermarket companies about the full line of non-lead products BADA® now offers and the technical and environmental benefits associated with our steel wheel weights.”

BADA® took a proactive stride in 2005 and developed several popular wheel weight styles in steel before regulations demanded the change. Because the steel wheel weights have been so well-received, BADA® has now developed a complete product line of BADA® steel wheel weights, which are high quality, lead alternatives that shop owners can now choose when balancing tires and wheels assemblies.

In 2005, the European Union banned the use of lead wheel weights because they are a direct source of lead pollutant in our water supply. Since then, major automakers have taken notice and have begun to switch to steel wheel weights. “Several leading automakers and tire retailers have made the decision to transition from lead wheel weights”.

State and Local governments in the United States have also taken notice, and there is now pending legislation in several states to ban lead wheel weights. Initially many are requiring the use of non-lead wheel weights on fleet vehicles. Details on all pending legislative activity on lead wheel weights are accessible from BADA’s® new website.

Fortunately, BADA® has the right weight, right now, for customers looking for a practical alternative to lead. BADA® steel wheel weights not only offer a smart environmental alternative, but several design benefits as well. For example, a special metallic coating process to enhance appearance and prevent unsightly staining and corrosion on rim surfaces. Unlike other manufacturers that stake the weight to the back of the clip, the BADA® design incorporates the clip in the mass of the weight. This allows for a better fit that imitates the look of a traditional wheel weight.

About Hennessy Industries
Hennessy Industries manufactures COATS®, AMMCO® and BADA®. It is the largest full-line wheel-service equipment manufacturer in North America and is recognized for its advanced technology in the manufacture of COATS® tire changers and wheel balancers, AMMCO® brake lathes and lifts, and BADA® wheel balancing weights.

AMMCO® 4000E Brake Lathe Now Available to Provide Rotors with Ultimate Finish

LA VERGNE, Tenn.– The AMMCO® 4000E, the easiest to use and most ergonomic lathe ever made, is now available to make all of your rotor refinishing projects easier, faster, and more precise.

The 4000E provides total control for optimized speed and feed combinations. Operators have the ability to make necessary adjustments with ease, which allows even a new operator to turn rotors to perfection. Today, rotor refinishing is more complicated than ever, but the 4000E provides ease-of-use and superior results to lessen those complications.

The 4000E is easy to adapt to any rotor or drum material that exists now or in the future. Providing digitally controlled feed rates allows an operator the ability to get the highest quality finish possible. The 4000E also has integrated positive rake tool bits to allow for precision tuning and reduced chatter to allow for better-quality machine surfaces than that of another brake lathe.

As the first lathe to feature an integrated synchronous gearbox and shifter, the 4000E allows users to shift on the fly. Users can choose the correct speed for each work piece with ease right at their fingertips. This eliminates the awkwardness of reaching behind the machine to make adjustments, and it helps to tame loud noises composite rotors sometimes omit.

The 4000E is equipped to handle light truck and SUV applications. The one-inch, heat-forged arbor on the AMMCO® 4000E allows you to machine jobs up to 200 pounds. By adding the optional “F” adaptor kit, the range of heavier and splined rotor assemblies increases, so users have the ability to service a higher volume of heavy work, and potentially any other application that may come in.

All AMMCO® brake lathes are exact tools that cut to one-thousandth of an inch tolerance. Many of today’s vehicles are extremely sensitive, so the precision of an AMMCO® brake lathe ensures customers smooth braking and complete satisfaction.

True to AMMCO® style, the 4000E is the most reliable and durable brake lathe on the market.

LA VERGNE, Tenn. — Recognizing the need for light- and medium-duty wheel balancers, Hennessy Industries has introduced the COATS® 775, 875 and 1175 wheel balancers. The three new models were designed to help shop owners add revenue and generate repeat business.

“These new balancers are ideal first or back-up machines for shops that want to keep balancing services in-house,” said Don Vanderheyden, Hennessy’s group marketing manager for wheel-service solutions. “All three models have self-calibration accuracy within 1/100 of an ounce, making balancing fast and efficient, even for a new technician.”

The three new balancers also include features found on more expensive machines, such as an integrated LED matrix display. The display provides technicians with a keypad and easy-to-read visual cues, which promote proper balancing techniques and faster bay turnaround times. In addition, the three balancers are compact, saving owners valuable shop space.

While the COATS® 775 can handle tires up to 100 pounds, the COATS® 875 and 1175 models were designed for larger volumes, holding tires as heavy as 130 pounds and 150 pounds, respectively.

In fact, the COATS® 1175 wheel balancer was designed to be the ideal medium-duty standalone or second machine. The balancer features a color LED matrix display that provides critical information at a glance.

“After talking to customers, we confirmed that shops needed even more options for light and medium-duty balancing,” Vanderheyden added. “Our 875 and 1175 models were designed to provide those options, such as Automatic Distance and Diameter Entry. These automatic offset and diameter measurements make every balancing job quick and precise.”

The COATS® 875 and 1175 models also include direct Tape-A-Weight® placement, featuring audible beeps to guide technicians to perfect placement every time. In addition, the 875 and 1175 models feature auto-start hoods and expanded weight trays for easily reachable storage.

Tape-A-Weight® and hidden weight capabilities, common to all three balancers, help keep weights out of sight when balancing the increasing number of OE alloy wheels. Designed for ease of use, the new balancer seeks to help shops increase profits by streamlining operation and providing self-training capabilities.

“Today’s new vehicles have larger wheels and special applications that are difficult to service with older balancers,” said Don Vanderheyden, Hennessy’s group marketing manager for wheel-service solutions. “In addition, the increase use of hidden tape-weight balancing demands newer technology and custom balancing techniques. The 1250-3DV was designed to help address those issues.”

Engineered for front-line, high-volume shop duty, the 1250-3DV is ideal for both experienced and entry-level technicians. The embedded, commercial-grade LCD flat screen provides on-board training designed to provide a live demonstration for every step of the balancing process. With a full 180-degree viewing angle of the LCD screen, then the technician can easily watch the balancing processes animation, then immediately follow the operating steps.

“Shop managers know that customer satisfaction improves with ongoing technician training for advanced balancing procedures,” Vanderheyden added. “The 1250-3DV will help shops and dealers meet the increased demand for aftermarket wheel and tire packages.”

The machine’s three-dimensional automatic data entry and laser-guided weight placement provide fast and accurate results even on the most demanding applications requiring hidden weights.

The 1250-3DV features custom balancing modes results in savings in both labor and wheel weights. The machine features custom balancing modes such as precise behind-the-spoke weight positioning and static-on-screen.

In order to provide technicians with speed and long-term performance, the 1250-3DV is built around COATS®’ patented Direct Drive™ technology that uses the motor’s main shaft, not pulleys or belts that wear or slip. This proven, 1.5-horsepower system reaches balancing speed quickly and coasts during measurements, resulting in a faster cycle time without component “noise” that can create balancing errors.

About Hennessy Industries

Hennessy Industries manufactures COATS®, AMMCO® and BADA® and is the largest full-line wheel-service equipment manufacturer in North America. Hennessy is recognized for its state-of-the-art technology in the manufacture of COATS® tire changers and wheel balancers, AMMCO® brake lathes and lifts, and BADA® wheel-balancing weights.

Hennessy Industries, Inc., is a wholly owned subsidiary of DH Holding, a subsidiary of Danaher Corporation (NYSE: DHR), a Fortune 500 company.
Entries Being Accepted for Tire Review Top Shop Award Contest

AKRON, Ohio – Entries are now being accepted for the 2007 Tire Review Top Shop Award presented by Hennessy Industries, a new program that seeks to honor the "best of the best" independent tire dealers in the U.S. and Canada.

One winner will be named the 2007 Top Shop and receive a COATS® tire changer, a cash prize, and a trip for two to Las Vegas for the 2007 SEMA Show. Three finalists will receive COATS® tire/wheel balancers and cash prizes.

The contest is now open, and entries will be accepted until July 15, according to the magazine. Entry forms and information are available online at Tire Review's Web site (www.tirereview.com) or in each issue of the publication from February through July.

"The Top Shop Awards are not a popularity contest or focused of which dealer is biggest," said Jim Smith, editor of Tire Review. "We are trying to find independent tire dealers - small or large - who epitomize those attributes and values we stress with every issue of Tire Review: a true professional who is exemplary in customer service and retention, in training and education, in merchandising and promotion, in professional standards and conduct, in appearance, in solid business management, in community involvement and in growth and achievement."

"When Tire Review presented us with the Top Shop Award concept, we knew right away it was something we wanted to support," said Kevin Keefe, director of marketing for Hennessy Industries. "Our primary focus at Ammco/COATS® is to provide products and solutions that help independent tire dealers deliver an outstanding service experience to their customers, and grow their businesses in the process. The Top Shop Award will recognize just a few of the many outstanding dealers we encounter each and every day in our travels, and we're proud to be a part of its debut.

"What struck us about the Top Shop Award is that it's about a lot more than selling tires," Keefe said. "It emphasizes several key drivers of success for just about any business: customer service/retention, community involvement, training and education and overcoming everyday obstacles. It's an award Ammco/COATS® believes will bring much deserved recognition to a few of the many successful businesspeople in our industry."

Dealers can nominate their business, or others can nominate tire dealer businesses. The entry process is simple: Those making the nomination need to provide basic information about the dealership being nominated and write a short (300-word maximum) essay explaining why that dealership should be considered. (See attached entry form)

From there, all entrants will reviewed and a group of semi-finalists selected. Those semi-finalists will be asked to provide additional information for judging. A panel of judges, including industry professionals and a member of the Tire Review staff, will select the four finalists and, ultimately, the 2007 Top Shop Award winner.

The Top Shop Award winner will receive a COATS® APX90 tire changer, a $1,500 cash prize, airfare and hotel for two (3 nights/2 days) to the 2007 SEMA Show, a feature story on their business in the October issue of Tire Review, and a specially designed trophy to display in their store.

The three finalists will each receive a COATS® 1250 tire/wheel balancer, a $500 cash prize, a feature story on their dealership in that same October issue, and a specially designed plaque.

COATS® Introduces Next Generation of Tire Changers

LA VERGNE, Tenn. - With wheels and tires rapidly getting bigger, heavier and tougher, tire service today is more challenging than it has ever been – and choosing the right equipment is critical. At the SEMA Show 2006, Hennessy Industries today unveiled the COATS® APX90 Tire Changer – the ultimate in versatility, performance and ease of use.

New wheels, both aftermarket and OE, are increasingly large and unwieldy and require delicate care. In addition, mounting and demounting low-profile, high-performance and a variety of run-flat designs can be challenging. But no matter what kind of assembly, the COATS® APX90 was designed to handle any job quickly, efficiently and with protection for customers’ wheels.

“The challenge was to design a piece of equipment that could handle any kind of application challenge yet be intuitive and easy to use for any technician, not just a select one or two,” said Keefe. “We talked to tire dealers across the country and observed technicians at work to make sure we developed the best product to meet their needs.”

“Another major hurdle for tire dealers is technician turnover,” Keefe added. “Tire dealers need more than ever to consistently deliver an outstanding service experience in order to compete. The APX90 minimizes the technician learning curve. The optional onboard training unit addition keeps tire technicians proficient, which is a key factor in helping our customers maintain their competitive edge.”

Features and benefits of the COATS® APX90 include:

• External clamping capacity of 9-inch to 30-inch for servicing today’s wide range of tires and wheels.
• Industry prevailing Rim Clamp® Tire Changer style operation means a short learning curve for technicians.
• Applies smart ergonomics, with intuitive controls located at the point of actuation - requires only one operator regardless of tire size/difficulty.
• Can easily handle special applications such as negative offset or reverse mount rims without additional adapters.
• Can handle virtually any commercially available run-flat design without the need to purchase an additional expensive extraction device.

The COATS® APX90 was built with helper devices to make servicing the toughest wheels an easy task – while reducing operator effort. The technician can use all, some or no helpers at all depending on the particular job to ensure maximum efficiency.

• Three-position Bead Loosener — Exclusive design enables complete power in, power out and stop control over the bead-loosening shoe for increased productivity.
• RoboArm® Helper Device — Applies direct pressure from cylinder to create bead lock and provide extra leverage on run-flat and low profile tires.
• RoboRoller® — Keeps bead in drop center for large diameter runflats and lowprofile tires.
• Duckhead® Roller — Keeps bead in drop center on run-flats and low-profile tires.
• Horizontal Rollers — Provides easy bead and rim lubrication, assists in mounting, and demounts lower bead without tire tool.
• Wheel Lift — Reduces operator fatigue and potential wheel damage..

LA VERGNE, Tenn. - Hennessy Industries, manufacturer of COATS® Tire Changers and Wheel Balancers, AMMCO® Brake Lathes and Lifts, and BADA® Wheel Weights, is adding a new cost-saving technology to its XR-series and 1250 Wheel Balancers.

The technology, which has been used for some time in European balancers, is called EconoBalance and is an alternative approach to balancing a tire and wheel assembly. EconoBalance seeks first to eliminate the static imbalance in a wheel assembly, then based on several parameters, calculates the minimum amount of corrective weight needed to bring dynamic imbalance within acceptable limits, or what is unnoticeable to the driver.

"We realize that shop owners want to be able to tailor their operations to fit the profile of the work that typically comes through their doors," said Don Vanderheyden, group marketing manager for Hennessy Industries. "By adding COATS® EconoBalance to our conventional balancing technology, we've created the most comprehensive and flexible equipment offering on the market, helping shop owners strike a balance between cost savings and comeback prevention."

Balancing wheel assemblies using COATS® EconoBalance often results in the application of less corrective weight, which can cut costs. There is also a potential reduction in the number of "re-spins" needed to achieve an acceptable balance condition. And since EconoBalance eliminates most subjective decisions from the balancing process, it provides a quick and effective means for training new technicians.

Vanderheyden added that because EconoBalance and similar technologies leave higher imbalance residuals than those of conventional balancing modes, mounting and centering, as well as the use of proper adapters is critically important.

"Approximately 60 percent of customer comebacks for vibration are due to improper wheel mounting on the balancer, clamping error, and/or damaged or worn cones, spring, or shaft," he said.

LA VERGNE, Tenn. - The newest brake lathe from Hennessy Industries, the AMMCO® 4000B-SP, is designed for speed, enabling busy shops to turn standard work quicker and easier. Using single-speed spindle and feed rates, it efficiently cuts rotors in one pass, with a high-quality finish.

The 4000B-SP brake lathe is a simplified precision tool that converts from drums to rotors in less than 30 seconds. The twin cutter tool simultaneously resurfaces both sides of a rotor and cuts to one-thousandth of an inch to meet the demands of today's more sensitive vehicles. In addition, one-pass machining with positive rake tool bits create precision machined surfaces every time

"Brake service professionals know that time lost is money lost," said Kevin Keefe, Hennessy's group marketing manager. "With this new brake lathe, AMMCO® is helping shop owners maximize efficiency. This is one of the most accurate, durable and easy-to-use machines you can put in your shop. Even new operators can quickly turn rotors like seasoned professionals."

The 4000B-SP features a 44-pound spindle, extra large bronze bearings with a constant oil feed and larger drive gear that provide durability and help reduce wear. Keefe added that many AMMCO® 4000s are still in service after 40 years of continuous use. In fact, there are more AMMCO® brake lathes in service nationwide than all other brands combined.

LA VERGNE, Tenn. - Hennessy Industries has introduced its newest tire changer, the COATS® 5040 A/E Rim Clamp® Tire Changer, which can service tire and wheel assemblies up to 21 inches wide.

The 5040 A/E Rim Clamp® Tire Changer is designed for shops looking to add service capacity and greater wheel protection. Available in air or electric drive, the tire changer has an x-shaped turntable with an external clamping range of 10 to 21 inches. Protection accessories prevent metal-to-metal contact, while pedal controls allow more careful tire mounting.

"Wheels keep getting bigger and easier to damage, from both OE and custom manufacturers," said Kevin Keefe, Hennessy's group marketing manager for tire service solutions. "With this new tire changer, COATS® is providing shop owners and technicians with an innovative, cost-effective tool that is capable of handling virtually all OEM wheels. This one machine provides protection at every step of the tire changing process for most wheel sizes."

Keefe added that the controls are logically placed for stationary work without excess reaching, walking or bending, which translates into more jobs turned and more profits. Additionally, the COATS® 5040 A/E Rim Clamp® Tire Changer has built in bead sealing jets for faster workflow, and an x-shaped tabletop that firmly holds wheels in place.

COATS® Introduces New Model 1250 Wheel Balancer

LA VERGNE, Tenn. — At SEMA this week, Hennessy Industries unveiled the Model 1250 Wheel Balancer, the latest COATS® product designed to make weight placement faster, easier and more accurate.

"Our LED balancers have been the workhorses of the industry for many years," said Kevin Keefe, Hennessy's group marketing manager for tire service solutions. "To create the 1250, we took the most popular features from our past models and incorporated them with premium enhancements that accommodate today's tire and wheel assemblies."

The new 1250 model features eight balancing modes, including static, dynamic, four alloy options, behind the spoke and patch balance. The 1250 features an interactive user interface that is simple to use. The interface gives visual cues, provides step-by-step instructions and automatically calculates and displays residual static imbalance to solve one of the most common causes of vibration-related comebacks. In the "behind the spoke" weight placement mode, the system even alerts the user to optimal spoke selections to achieve a balanced assembly with the minimum amount of corrective weight.

The 1250 uses Laser Guided Technology™ to make Tape-A-Weight® placement precise. The laser guidance system pinpoints the spot where a Tape-A-Weight® is needed, and the automatic stop-on-top feature eliminates rotation searches for placement cues. The revolutionary system allows the technician to place the Tape-A-Weight® by hand, yet still achieve a one-spin balance.

The balancing cycle on the 1250 takes about five seconds - with improved ergonomics that eliminate unnecessary motions. The 1250 automatically measures the distance and diameter of wheels from 8 inches to 30 inches in diameter and can accommodate wheel assemblies with a 44-inch maximum diameter. The 1250 comes with a 1.5 HP direct drive motor for superior durability and features a high-capacity weight tray.

The 1250 model is available with the choice of three accessory kits - basic, extended and premium - so that the user can be more productive over a wider range of applications.

Hennessy Industries manufactures COATS®, AMMCO® and BADA® and is the largest full-line wheel-service equipment manufacturer in North America.

LA VERGNE, Tenn. - Hennessy Industries and Ford Engineering have introduced a balancer cone and fixed finger plate developed specifically for improving wheel service for certain Ford trucks and sport utility vehicles (SUVs).

The Ultra Low Angle (ULA) 3-degree Cone (PN 81141821) and Fixed Finger Plate 12b (6x135mm; 40mm shaft, PN 8113711C) are designed for use on 2004-2006 Ford F-150s and 2003-2006 Expeditions and Lincoln Navigators. Marketed under the COATS® brand of balancing equipment and accessories, the balancer cone improves the quality and reliability of standard balance jobs on wheel and tire assemblies for the specified Ford models.

"Suspension systems on modern vehicles, especially trucks and SUVs, are becoming increasingly complex and sensitive, increasing the need for more precise balancing," said Kevin Keefe, Hennessy's group marketing manager for tire service solutions. "With these new accessories, COATS® and Ford Engineering are helping shop owners and technicians minimize vibration and steering nibble complaints."

Keefe added that when standard balancing accessories do not properly fit tire and wheel assemblies, it is more difficult for a technician to identify and remedy the cause of vibration. Additionally, there is some change in balance when an assembly is removed from balancing equipment and remounted onto a vehicle, which can be magnified by accessories that do not fit or are worn. When used together on any wheel balancer with a 40mm diameter shaft, the COATS® ULA 3-degree Cone and Fixed Finger Plate 12b effectively narrow the gap between the initial balance and the remount.

Hennessy Industries manufactures COATS®, AMMCO® and BADA® and is the largest full-line wheel-service equipment manufacturer in North America.

LA VERGNE, TN — COATS® XR1750 Video Wheel Balancer has proven to be a technician favorite. And after soliciting “Voice of the Customer” feedback from the field, COATS® now offers three configurations of the model, affording users a wider range of choices when shopping for a fully-featured front-line wheel balancer.

Every COATS® XR 1750 features a position-locking pedal, direct Tape-A-Weight® placement, behind-the-spoke weight placement, and Static-On-ScreenTM residual static imbalance diagnostics. The XR1750 is now available in the following 3 configurations:

XR 1750 3Di: All standard features, plus 3-parameter auto data entry and an onboard air supply.

XR 1750 3D: All standard features, plus 3-parameter auto data entry.

XR 1750 2D: All standard features, plus 2-paramter auto data entry at a special value price.

“These configurations mean a shop gets an almost ‘custom’ wheel balancer that is a perfect fit for its operations,” said Kevin Keefe, Product Manager for COATS®.

COATS® offers three core models in its award-wining XR Series Wheel Balancer line. The XR 1850 and XR 1800 are diagnostic balancers designed for high-volume tire service shops. They are capable of running a complete suite of diagnostics in a matter of just a few seconds, and finding and solving vibration problems--even those unrelated to imbalance--before the customer leaves the shop.

The COATS® XR 1750 offers the key features of XR Series balancers without the diagnostics package, providing a fast, affordable, and reliable balancer for smaller shops or an ideal front-line balancer for shops that already have diagnostic capability.

COATS® XR Series balancers also feature COATS® exclusive Static on Screen™ simultaneous display of static and dynamic data, which identifies any excess residual static imbalance.

In addition, XR Series balancers are offered with a variety of accessory and adapter options to provide reliable and repeatable mounting and centering of virtually any wheel.

COATS® Expands XR Series Line with Model XR 1750

LA VERGNE, TN — Last year, COATS® all new XR 1800 wheel balancer got lots of attention. Technicians loved it. It was recognized as one of the top tools of the year. And sales were even stronger than COATS® anticipated.

Now there is a new balancer model to expand the value and versatility of the XR platform.

“As we have always said, our first step in new product development is our ‘Voice of the Customer’ process,” said Matt Cole, Vice President of Marketing for Hennessy Industries, manufacturers of COATS® products. “We heard lots of great things about the XR 1800, but we kept asking our customers what we could do to improve. The new XR 1750 is based on what our customers told us they wanted in an extension of the XR Series line.

“Our ‘Voice of the Customer’ input kept indicating how easy it is for technicians to work with the XR Series balancers,” Cole said. “Technicians really liked the fact that the balancer takes the A, W, and D measurements automatically, and the video screen indicates exactly where the weight is supposed to be placed. Even when they weren’t running the diagnostics package, technicians found that the XR series balancers made their jobs easier and faster.

“That’s where the XR 1750 comes in—it provides the speed and ease of use afforded by the XR platform, but we’ve taken off the diagnostics and given shops a very cost-efficient, very easy to use balancer. The video screen has real-time 3-D graphics, visual cues, and help screens to guide the technician throughout the balancing process. We have even included modes for direct Tape A Weight™ location and behind the spoke weight placement. These are the best in their class. The technician’s job is easier than ever, even for the most difficult balancing.”

Cole also noted COATS® exclusive Static on ScreenTM simultaneous display of static and dynamic data, which identifies any excess residual static imbalance.

XR1750 wheel balancers come with a wealth of convenient accessory storage. They have 12 balancing modes (including several alloy modes, and even 2 PAX modes) and run on a 110 volt power.

In addition, XR Series balancers come with their own set of accessories. Owners can choose from one of three accessory packages, depending on the vehicles they service. Packages range from accessories and adapters to service passenger cars to sets that can service everything from passenger cars through light trucks.

“We were extremely pleased at how the industry reacted to our introduction of the XR 1800 last year,” Cole said. “Now, with the XR 1750, we’re ready to give tire service shops even more solutions to the growing challenge of wheel balancing.”

COATS® XR 1850 Provides Fast Diagnostic Balancing, CSI Advantages

LA VERGNE, TN — Tackling tough wheel balancing jobs just got a lot easier, thanks to the COATS® XR 1850 wheel balancer. It is designed to simplify even tricky diagnostic balancing tasks, speeding the process and guiding technicians to the proper balancing solutions.

The new COATS® XR 1850 wheel balancer offers best-in-class Tape-A-Weight® and behind-the-spoke positioning, and fast balancing cycles. It also features enhanced diagnostics to identify both radial and lateral runout, additional storage, and a printer that can be used to provide customers with a copy of the data from balancing their tires and wheels.

“The XR 1850 is designed for quality conscious tire service providers—such as car dealers—where CSI performance is critical,” said Kevin Keefe, Group Marketing Manager, Tire Service Solutions. “The XR Series balancers provide the fastest diagnostics available—adding just a few seconds to the balancing process. Now, with lateral as well as radial runout diagnostics, the XR 1850 can provide extra assurance of customer satisfaction and the opportunity to eliminate even more comebacks. And with a printed copy of data available, it is easy for the shop to show its customers how much work has been done to ensure their satisfaction. The printout also makes it easy for technicians to share information on a vehicle, and to work together for better vehicle performance.”

With the proliferation of low profile tires, stiffer frames and tighter suspensions, closer brake tolerances and other factors, there are many more opportunities for vibrations to occur. The XR Series diagnostics package signals the technician when a tire or wheel is going to need extra attention.

“In the past, diagnostic balancers were known as ‘comeback machines’ because they helped find difficult problems when customers came back to the shop. Our XR 1850 balancer was created with a different thought in mind. It’s an ‘anti-comeback machine,’ because it identifies problems before the customer leaves,” Keefe said.

And for a balancer that can do so much, the XR 1850 is remarkably easy to use.

“XR Series balancers automatically take the A, W, and D measurements,” he noted. “There’s no need for an outer arm. The video screen has real-time 3-D graphics, visual cues, and help screens to guide the technician throughout the balancing process. We have even included modes for direct Tape A Weight location and behind the spoke weight placement. These are the best in their class. And it’s air equipped, so you don’t have to go to a tire changer for rotate and balance jobs. The technician’s job is easier than ever, even for the most difficult balancing.”

Keefe also noted COATS® exclusive Static on Screen™ simultaneous display of static and dynamic data, which identifies any excess residual static imbalance.

XR Series balancers come with an accessories carousel, a removable sliding tool tray and side storage pegs offering huge amounts of convenient storage. They have 12 balancing modes, and run on a 110 volt power supply.

In addition, XR Series balancers can be ordered with the appropriate set of accessories for the shop. Owners can choose from one of three accessory packages, depending on the vehicles they service. Packages range from accessories and adapters to service passenger cars to sets that can service everything from passenger cars through light trucks.

To learn more, see your COATS® distributor or visit www.ammcoats.com.

LA VERGNE, TN — COATS® new 9024E model is a tire changer that can handle virtually any job, from the simplest to the most complex, and any wheel up to 26”.

“We created the 9024E to accommodate changing needs in the marketplace,” said Mark Cramer, Director of Commercial Marketing. “Tires and wheels are getting bigger, and shops need equipment that can handle these larger assemblies while protecting expensive finishes and making the technician’s job easier.”

The 9024E has the power to handle the most difficult jobs, including runflats and low profiles. A robotic arm provides the power to flex stiff sidewalls, and moveable discs provide extra holding help for heavy wheels. Precision gauges guarantee accurate inflation, and the x-shaped tabletop provides clamping pressure to hold even the most delicate wheels. Bead loosener socks, clamp booties, and lift tool protection prevent metal-to-metal contact with wheels.

And with power devices that do 90% of the work, floor-to-floor time, along with operator fatigue, is drastically cut.

The 9024E is also built to last. Fiber reinforced air cylinders virtually never wear out, and extra support blocks for bead looseners add extra durability.
